Jika di Ma&#8217;la banyak dimakamkan para sahabat, ulama&#8217; dan terkhusus Sayyidah Khadijah, di Baqi&#8217; pun juga terdapat banyak didapati makam para<em> ahlu beit<\/em> Nabi, ribuan sahabat muhajirin ataupun anshor dan ulama&#8217; terkemuka lainnya.<\/p>\n<p>Sejarah Baqi&#8217; sendiri berawal dari pemakaman di masa pra Islam alias zaman jahiliyah. Saat itu Baqi\u2019 tidak memiliki keistimewaan sama sekali, layaknya kuburan-kuburan lainnya. Ketika Rasulullah SAW menjadikan Baqi\u2019 sebagai kompleks pemakaman untuk orang-orang Islam, Baqi\u2019 kemudian menjelma menjadi tempat yang super istimewa. Imam Tirmidzi)<\/p>\n<p>Dulu luas Baqi&#8217; tak selebar sekarang. Pernah beberapa kali mengalami perluasan dan pemugaran <em>qubbah-qubbah<\/em> di dalamnya. Bahkan menurut kisah yang pernah kami dengar, karena alasan politik saat itu makam khalifah Usman bin Affan dulunya di luar Baqi&#8217;. Namun setelah diperluas kini makam tersebut menjadi bagian dari Baqi&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Apesnya, mengenali makam di negara penghasil minyak ini sangatlah susah. Tak seperti makam-makam di kampung kita yang di tiap nisannya termaktub jelas siapa saja penghuninya. Semua ini tak lepas dari campur tangan pemerintah setempat yang disokong kelompok puritan pengagum Muhammad Abdul Wahhab yang mengubah wajah pemakaman seperti Baqi&#8217; dan Ma&#8217;la tanpa tanda, <em>qubbah<\/em> dan nama. Seakan umat Islam dibuat <em>gagu<\/em> dan bingung saat memasuki pemakaman tersebut untuk mengetahui letak dan wajah makam-makam para sahabat di sana yang dikenal begitu besar jasanya terhadap Islam. Jika kita masa bodoh, maka anak-anak kita kelak akan semakin buta tentang hal ini.<\/p>\n<p>Beruntung kami memiliki tradisi ziarah Baqi&#8217; dari para habaib dan guru-guru kami di Madinah yang setiap pekan (Jumat pagi) menyempatkan diri ziarah ke Baqi&#8217;. Dari sana kami menyimak dan mencermati betul letak dan nama-nama sebagian dari para sahabat dan ulama&#8217; yang dimakamkan di sana.
