Nyai Hamdanah merupakan putri Kiai Sholeh Darat al-Samarani yang dinikahkan kepada sahabat karibnya, yaitu Syaikh Nawawi al-Bantani. Keduanya, yakni al-Samarani dan al-Bantani ini merupakan sahabat seperguruan di Haramain, sama-sama pernah berguru kepada Sayyid Ahmad Zaini Dahlan.<\/p>\n

Nasib al-Samarani berbeda dengan al-Bantani. Al-Samarani diminta salah seorang ulama Demak untuk kembali ke tanah air guna menyebarkan Islam di tanah kelahirannya, sedangkan al-Bantani tetap khidzmah menjadi pelayan ilmu di Haramain hingga akhir hayatnya.<\/p>\n

Sebelum wafat, al-Bantani berpesan kepada salah satu muridnya, yaitu Raden Asnawi Kudus supaya kelak jika ia meninggal agar jandanya nanti dinikahinya. Sebagian pendapat yang mengusulkan adalah Syaikh Abdul Hamid.<\/p>\n

Setelah al-Bantani wafat, Nyai Hamdanah menikah dengan Raden Asnawi Kudus. Dari perkawinan ini keduanya diberi keturunan sebanyak sembilan, namun yang masih hidup hingga dewasa hanya ada tiga, yaitu Zuhri, Azizah, dan Alawiyah.<\/p>\n

Menurut cerita Mbah Moen, salah satu keberkahan Kota Kudus adalah sebab adanya pernikahan Raden Asnawi dengan Nyai Hamdanah yang merupakan janda Syaikh Nawawi al-Bantani, ulama alim yang mempunyai banyak murid alim di Nusantara, terlebih pulau jawa.<\/p>\n

Salah satu keistimewaan Nyai Hamdanah adalah, (sebagaimana yang pernah diceritakan Mbah Moen), “Jika kalian ingin mempunyai istri shalihah, maka berziarahlah di makam Nyai Hamdanah.”<\/p>\n
